Some wild beings are so good at hiding in plain sight. At Tuesday noon, I almost swept this Gray Treefrog right off our second-story deck. Yikes!
The wee amphibian was about the length of two nickles, and, from five or six feet above, appeared much more camouflaged than this photo shows. The treefrog’s skin resembled that of an avocado, and there was a characteristic light-colored patch of skin below each of the dark eyes.
She or he rested in place for at least three hours before very slowly departing the deck, seemingly at a rate of only a leap or two every fifteen minutes. I’m grateful I didn’t hurt this wild being, and that I had the opportunity to study this species up close.
